206 pages

Annemarie Wilcox, known to her family as Shug, is twelve years old and just staring middle school.  Life is not easy for Shug, as she has a dysfunctional family.  Annemarie is excited about starting 7th grade but things are not like they were in elementary—her best friend Mark starts hanging out with the guys and hardly even notices Shug.  Parents are fighting more and her older sister Celia is hardly  around and Shug is need of some advice and support.  Best friend Elaine, has a boyfriend, and  has little time for Annemarie and she feels very alone.  This is a great coming of age story where a young girl finds out who she is and who she can rely on in life.
